New Grant Program for USQ Cup for Team Travel Costs

To further ease the financial burden on teams going to nationals, USQ has created another new grant program to cover some of a team’s travel expenses. Applications are open now, and grants will be awarded immediately on a rolling basis.

Over the last few weeks, USQ has been contacted by teams struggling to have enough funds to cover their travel costs for US Quidditch Cup 2022, held April 23-24 in Salt Lake City. Collegiate teams especially are having difficulty coming up with all the money they need to get to Utah, despite fundraising for months and seeking funding from school and community organizations. Some teams have even delayed purchasing their flights due to a lack of funds.

Attending USQ’s national championship is the pinnacle of a team’s season. There’s no other tournament like it in scope or scale. It’s also crucial to a team’s ability to recruit and retain members in future years.

In response to these concerns, USQ has created another new grant program for this event to cover some of a team’s travel expenses. Applications are open now through this form. Grants will be awarded immediately on a rolling basis as funds are available. Details on how to apply are available on the grants page of our website.

USQ is funding this grant program through a combination of sources, including donations. In addition to the team registration fee grant, which covered the $450 registration fee for USQ Cup for over two dozen teams, USQ has dispersed nearly $20,000 in grants to members and teams this season, the highest amount ever. Our goal is to give out at least another $5,000 in direct financial aid, more if funds allow.

To support our efforts, please consider making a donation to our annual fundraiser here
