March Updates on Return to Play Guidelines

Read USQ’s updates on stage 3 guidelines and other COVID-19 safety policies for the remainder of the 21-22 season.

Stage 3 Guidelines

Effective April 10, all participants of stage 3 events must be up to date with their shots. This is in accordance with recent CDC guidelines that now incorporate booster shots into COVID-19 safety policies. If eligible, an individual must get their booster shot in order to be eligible to participate at USQ Cup and other stage 3 events starting April 10. The CDC currently recommends this timeline for booster shots:

  • Pfizer-BioNTech: for those 12 and up, at least 5 months after completing your primary COVID-19 vaccination series
  • Moderna: for those 18 and up, at least 5 months after completing your primary COVID-19 vaccination series
  • Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen: for those 18 and up, at least 2 months after receiving your J&J/Janssen COVID-19 vaccination

"Vaccines are our best defense against the pandemic. It is important to get boosted to continue to prevent the spread of COVID-19. This is especially important for events that bring together people from all over the country," said Rebecca Martin, risk management team lead. 

USQ staff will be verifying booster shots through the same submission form as proof of vaccination. For those eligible, starting April 10 proof of booster shots is due at least 24 hours before the start of the event, the same as the roster submission deadline. Individuals can get their booster shot at any time. The CDC states that someone is considered up to date with their shots as soon as they get a booster. For people who have already submitted proof of vaccination that includes proof of a booster shot, another submission is not required. 

Those eligible for a booster shot will be sent a reminder email the week of March 14. For those who don’t submit proof of a booster shot by April 10 and who are eligible for a booster, individual USQ accounts will be reset to be not cleared to play until proof of booster has been received. 

Testing Policies

We are expanding on the testing policies first announced in January.

Teams with players, coaches, or staff who are experiencing COVID symptoms, are exposed to COVID, or test positive for COVID must report that information to USQ via the positive test form here

Individuals experiencing COVID symptoms should be tested immediately. 

Individuals who develop COVID symptoms on or after the Tuesday before a stage 3 event or test positive after this time are not eligible to participate in the event and are encouraged to stay home and not travel. 

If an individual develops symptoms or tests positive the Monday before a stage 3 event, they may still be eligible to play. The risk management team will advise teams on a case-by-case basis in these situations to determine whether the individual can participate. This will depend on the person’s vaccination status, if they’ve had a booster, and whether or not they are showing symptoms. If an individual in this circumstance is allowed to participate in a stage 3 event, a mask may be required at all times, including while playing.

Additionally, if individuals on a team are exposed to COVID and the team is scheduled to attend an event in 5 days or less, individuals may be given permission to rapid test in advance of the event, instead of canceling all in-person events outright for 5 days. Specific guidance will be provided to the team after submitting the positive case form here

For example, for USQ Cup, if an individual tests positive for COVID on Wednesday, April 20 and they last attended a team practice on Monday, April 18, the person with the positive test would not be eligible to participate in the event. However, others on the team may be allowed to participate, pending the results of rapid antigen tests taken the morning of the event.
