Team Registration for USQ Regional Championships for the 2021-22 Season

Registration updates for USQ-hosted events.

Information is now available regarding team registration for the USQ regional championships. Details on team registration for the US Quidditch Cup 2022 will be available in October; however, some general information is also posted below.

Questions about the team registration process for USQ events should be directed to membership@usquidditch.org

REMINDER ON RETURN TO PLAY POLICIES

Prior to registering for any USQ Regional Championships ensure all members of your team are aware of the latest update to our Return to Play policy. All teams must be in accordance with these policies to participate in any USQ-hosted event. The latest update can be found here

Full information on policies and programs impacted by COVID-19 is available on this page of our website.

USQ REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

There is no additional cost for member teams to attend a USQ regional championship because it is included with team and player memberships.

For the 2021-22 season, the club division will be temporarily shifting back to its previous policy requiring teams to attend at least one regional championship in order to qualify for the 2022 US Quidditch Cup. Due to the lack of confirmed club tournaments, we hope these events will continue to foster club competition.

Collegiate and club teams can attend any regional championship, regardless of where their respective teams are located. Teams can also attend as many regional events as they like. During the “second half” of the tournament, college teams that have already qualified for USQ Cup 2022 may play a different schedule than teams still attempting to qualify.

Further details on team registration for these tournaments is available here

Throughout the season, USQ will be tracking event registration and the following requirements for teams.

  • Event requirements
    • Regional championship requirements
    • College division season play requirements
    • Club division season play requirements
    • At large bid requirements for USQ Cup
    • USQ Cup requirements

  • Membership requirements
    • Membership registration requirements, including team referee requirements, coach certification, and team snitch runners
    • Detail of coach certification requirements
    • Detail of team referee requirements
    • Details of team snitch runner requirements

More information on the tracking process will be available in the upcoming weeks.

Registration Steps

The registration process and requirements are the same  for collegiate and club teams. Each will need to do the following:

  1. Fill out this registration form. Teams that wish to attend more than one regional event have two choices for registering; 1) select which events they want to attend and fill out the form once for all of them;  2) submit separate registration forms for each event. This form must be submitted three weeks prior to the event.
  2. Register for the event on the USQ calendar. Links are available on this page and on the USQ events calendar. To do this, a team admin will need to login to the USQ website, click on the appropriate event calendar link, and click the button that says "request attendance."
  3. Reserve hotel rooms and notify USQ of their team’s  hotel arrangements by completing this form

To be eligible to officially compete in all events, teams must also complete the membership requirements listed here to be eligible to compete officially in all events (please note: this includes events that are not USQ-hosted regional and national championships.

The following items are optional:

  1. Designate additional team staff using this form
  2. Submit trading cards for players.
  3. Submit a logo.

Stay and Play Policy

The stay and play policy has been updated since the 2019-20 season. The policy for regional championships now states: all participating teams that are not located within 100 miles driving distance of the tournament site address are  required to stay in a hotel within the competition’s designated city, county, or region.

The only exception to this rule is for Midwest Regional Championships; due to contractual obligations,  teams competing in this region must stay within their competitions’ designated hotel room block.

This policy only applies to Regional Championships. Teams must stay in USQ room blocks for USQ Cup 2022. More information on the list of hotels will be available in October 2021.

For more information on USQ’s stay and play policy, visit the website here

Hotel Accomodations

Teams are responsible for booking their own accommodations at one of the reserved hotels with USQ’s special rate (see below) or another hotel in the championship city or county. If you need confirmation if a hotel is in the correct city or county, please reach out to USQ’s Events Manager, Jeremy Schleicher at jeremy.schleicher@usquidditch.org

Once hotel rooms are booked, teams must fill out this form. Teams are not considered fully registered for regionals until this form is completed.

Special Events

This season, USQ will begin hosting additional tournaments beyond regional and national championships.

We are also excited to announce that club teams will be able to attend Sin City Classic I in January 2022. The Sin City Classic is a multi-day LGBTQ+ sports festival hosted annually by The Greater Los Angeles Softball Association (GLASA) in Las Vegas during the four days prior to the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. First held in 2008, the event has grown to become the largest annual LGBTQ+ sporting event in the world. USQ will be joining the event in 2022, making quidditch its 25th sport.

This tournament will be for club division teams only. Registration will open later in the fall.

US QUIDDITCH CUP 2022

USQ Cup 2022  is scheduled to take place April 23-24, 2022 in Salt Lake City, Utah. USQ Cup 2022 will be similar in structure to previous years and the open division (previously planned for USQ 13) will return. 48 collegiate teams will be able to compete at this event in the competitive division. The open division will have up to 16 collegiate teams. The club division will remain uncapped at this time.

As mentioned in our gameplay policies update, teams will have to attend a regional competition to register for the USQ Cup. All teams must complete the season play requirements by 11:59pm ET on Sunday, March 6, 2022.
