Following a competitive hiring process, Laura Porth has been hired as Director of Events & Partnerships.
The hiring process for the new Director of Events & Partnerships began in November 2019, as announced here. Candidates submitted their resumes and cover letters, and then two rounds of interviews took place with selected applicants.
Laura Porth was selected for the role from a pool of over 100 candidates based on her extensive experience with sporting events with the Tulsa Sports Commission, runDisney, and other organizations. She also impressed us with her partnership development experience, which is a key aspect of this role under the organizational restructuring we announced last fall. Her background in many different sports, from track and field, to BMX, to soccer, and others, will be an asset to USQ as we work to improve our event operations and the experience for all our attendees. Porth also has familiarity with quidditch, having worked on the Tulsa Sports Commission’s bid for US Quidditch Cup that made it to the finalist stage in 2015 and then again in 2016.
“I’m extremely excited at the chance to join the US Quidditch community,” Porth said. “I felt this was the perfect opportunity for me to bring my event operations background and sports commission experience together in a new and exciting way. I believe the combination of the two will prepare me to enhance the fan and athlete experience at future USQ events. I can’t wait to get started!”
The Director of Events & Partnerships is a full-time role within USQ that reports to the Executive Director. It is a key leadership position responsible for the planning and execution of all USQ events and related programs, including USQ Cup, regional championships, event based partnerships, event bidding and sanctioning, and the tournament director certification program. The position works with year round volunteers on USQ staff in the areas of hospitality, field staff and volunteers, and tournament directors.
“Laura adds a tremendous amount of event experience to our organization. We share similar values when it comes to putting on quality events and how you successfully bring all the stakeholders together to make that happen. I look forward to having her on the team,” said Mary Kimball, Executive Director.
Porth’s first day of work is Monday, February 10. She will be attending the West Regional Championship, held in Livermore, CA from February 22-23, and US Quidditch Cup 13, held in Charleston, WV from April 18-19.
