The recipient of the 2019-20 team member grant is New York Quidditch Club.
The Team Member Grant was available for one already registered member team to receive up to $840 worth of individual memberships valid for the 2019-20 season. After reviewing all of the applications, New York Quidditch Club (NYQC) has been selected to receive this year’s grant.
Their application highlighted a variety of goals that would reach beyond their team and impact the growth of the quidditch community. One great example is their desire to develop the college quidditch scene in the New York City area. They have been doing outreach to teams in the area to assist with practices and to help foster a bond between teams to create a sense of camaraderie and open communication. NYQC sees the importance of a strong collegiate division and wants to use the resources and experience they have to help in any way possible. They also have goals in place to assist with educating the public about quidditch and making our sport more approachable for those who have not experienced it before. Their practices are accompanied by signage with information about their team and encouragement for anyone walking by to ask questions.
Their outreach goals also extend to the youth community, with efforts being made to work with existing youth quidditch teams in the area for mentorship opportunities and seeing what other opportunities there are for additional youth teams to be formed. They also hope to encourage other teams in the area to host youth workshops, and want to help standardize a way to make this happen in the community more frequently so there is continual outreach efforts for younger demographics.
As a new team, New York Quidditch Club has presented strong goals and values for their first season of operation. Their recruitment efforts are still continuing, so with this grant they are able to provide financial support for any new players they attract as they continue their educational outreach in the community. We are proud to award this year's grant to New York Quidditch Club and look forward to seeing how their team, and the New York City quidditch community, grows this season through their efforts.
US Quidditch still has one additional grant for the 2019-20 season, which is listed below. Questions about this year's grants and the grant process can be directed to email@example.com. Information on USQ’s grants can be found on the Grants page of our website.
