Referee and snitch runner written tests are now available. Also, the deadlines for team referee and snitch runner requirements have been adjusted.
Please remember that individuals must wait at least 24 hours after failing a test before retaking it. The referee tests must be taken in order: Assistant Referee, then Snitch Referee, then Head Referee. When taking the tests, please use the same email address as is associated with your USQ account.
If you are interested in becoming a referee or snitch runner for the first time, the links above outline the steps. Changes to the referee tier system were announced in June; you can read about those changes here. Certified head referees, lead assistant referees, and snitch runners are paid when they officiate an official match or an unofficial match at a USQ sanctioned event. The compensation is:
Head referees: $15/official game. $20/game at USQ regional and national championships.
Lead assistant referees: $10/official game.
Snitch runners: $8/official game.
The referee database has been reset and is available here.
Team Referee and Snitch Runner Requirements
As with previous seasons, teams are required to certify the following officials as part of their team membership requirements:
At least two team members must certify as assistant referees.
At least one different team member must certify as a snitch referee.
At least two different team members must pass the head referee written test (after passing the AR and SR written tests) and purchase a USQ referee membership.*
At least one different team member must pass the written snitch runner test and sign up for a free snitch runner membership.**
Please note that the snitch runner test is different than the snitch referee test.
*Adult players may upgrade to a referee membership for $25. This will make one eligible for the certified lead assistant referee position at official matches, which has a compensation rate of $10/game.
**Once they have passed the written test, the snitch runner will have the option to sign up for a field test or submit footage of their games in order to complete snitch certification. Certified snitches are paid $8/game at official matches.
Additionally, all teams competing at USQ events are required to supply a crew of officials, the same quantity and certifications as listed above.
In previous seasons, these two requirements had separate deadlines and for USQ events, teams were required to fill out a seperate team referee crew form. This season, we are consolidating these two requirements into one deadline that varies based on if your team is competing at a USQ regional championship and if so, if it’s in the fall or spring.
If your team is competing at a fall regional championship, you must complete the team referee and snitch runner requirements by the season play deadline for that specific event.
If your team is competing at a spring regional championship or not going to a regional championship at all but still an official member team, you must complete the requirements by either the season play deadline for the final fall regional championship, or one month after your team registers for the season, whichever comes later.
USQ staff will individually email teams to confirm which officials are coming to their regional championship. If there are more people on the team who are certified than what is required, we will confirm who is best suited for which position.
Here are the season play deadlines for regional championships. All deadlines are at 11:59 pm ET. The full list of deadlines for team registration for regional championships will be available at the end of the month.
