USQ Hiring Announcement

US Quidditch is excited to announce that Olivia Caughey has been hired as Events Manager, Jenna Bollweg has been hired as Communications Manager, and Megan Anderson has been hired as Membership Expansion Manager.

The hiring process for the three positions began earlier this fall, as announced here. Candidates submitted their resumes and cover letters, and then two rounds of interviews took place with selected applicants.

Events Manager

A graduate of East Carolina University, Caughey has a degree in communications with a concentration in public relations and a minor in sports studies. Previously, Caughey was Coordinator, Sport Development at USA Baseball where she assisted in growing the game through experiences, youth initiatives and programs, and educational resources. During her years at East Carolina, Caughey was the Athletic Communication Assistant with the ECU Athletics media relations team, providing a seamless game-day experience for football and both men’s and women’s basketball. Her extensive background in athletics as well as her skill, education, and passion for inclusivity make her a great fit for the Events Manager role.

“My career aspirations have always been to focus on bringing happiness, camaraderie and inclusivity, no matter the sport or organization,” said Caughey. “Being named Events Manager for US Quidditch, a national governing body where inclusivity, empowerment, and sustainability for all are at the forefront of the organization, is a dream come true. I am thrilled to be presented with this opportunity and to hit the ground running in January.”

The Events Manager is a full-time role within USQ that reports to the Executive Director. The Events Manager is a key leadership position responsible for supporting the planning and execution of all USQ events and related programs in the events department, including national and regional championships. In her role as Events Manager, Caughey will focus on event logistics, general event support, and administration. In addition to the event-specific roles, she will also support the other employees throughout the year. 

“I'm very excited to welcome Olivia as our new full-time Events Manager,” said Sarah Woolsey, US Quidditch Executive Director. “Her experience at USA Baseball will be an asset to our league, and we're looking forward to her contributions as the newest member of our Events team.”

Caughey’s first day of work will be Wednesday, January 2, 2019.

Communications Manager

Bollweg started her journey in the quidditch community at Texas State University in August of 2015, joining first as a player. After being voted onto the board of officers as the head of public relations and vice president of the organization in the spring of 2016, she was eventually selected as president through May of 2018. During this time, Bollweg volunteered with USQ on the Southwest Regional Championship & US Quidditch Cup photo teams. Furthering her breadth of volunteerism, Bollweg previously managed the digital media team for the quidditch media source “The Eighth Man” from January of 2017 to December 2018, in addition to serving as Major League Quidditch’s coordinator and now director of digital media since March of 2017. Her contributions have led to the increased quantity and quality of photo, video, and social media content within the sport. In summer of 2018, Bollweg was selected by the US National Team staff to serve as the USNT Videographer and Italian Liaison in addition to her USNT alternate status for the IQA World Cup 2018, with her work featured in NowThis, Buzzfeed, CNN, and more. Since graduating, Bollweg co-founded and currently plays for the central Texas-based USQ community team “Texas Hill Country Heat.”

Bollweg’s extensive experience within the sport itself are supplementary to her qualifications as a communications professional. Bollweg has been pursuing a career in business, public relations, and communications since 2014, earning her a degree in international business and mass communications from Texas State University, leading to numerous positions in the field with both local and international companies, as well as managing her own media company and doing international contract work for agencies such as NASA and CERN.

“Shortly after joining the community, I knew I was going to throw everything I had at this sport both on and off the pitch. As a relatively new sport, I saw that were so many areas where I could test and apply my expertise for the benefit of a growing and dedicated community. For years, I’ve dreamt of the opportunity to turn my passion for management and communications within the sport into a viable career path, so I’m ecstatic to see how my perspective and passion can make positive changes within the organization and at-large.”

The Communications Manager is a part-time role within USQ that reports to the Executive Director. USQ’s strategic plan for 2018 through 2021 is centered on sustainable expansion of the league, focusing on retention, recruitment, and reach. Specifically concentrating on reach, the communications department at US Quidditch is in charge of getting the word out about league programs and events and helping to frame league communication strategies. The Communications Manager is responsible for working with staff to communicate mission, programs, and accomplishments via printed materials, social media, and other web-related platforms. Bollweg will work closely with the Executive Director, Events Director, and other staff and volunteers to ensure that USQ’s communications efforts are successful and reflect USQ’s mission, vision, and values.

“We are very happy to announce Jenna’s hire,” said Woolsey. “She’s already made a huge impact on our sport through her previous contributions, and our league will continue to benefit from her expertise and enthusiasm.

Bollweg’s first day of work was Monday, December 17, 2018. This is a short-term role through Summer 2019.

Membership Expansion Manager

As the Membership Expansion Manager, Anderson will oversee initiatives that work towards achieving key goals outlined in the strategic plan plus supports membership department programs. Outside of quidditch, she is the Special Projects Manager at Playhouse Square helping manage festivals, the Broadway in Akron Series, and a variety of other programs. Anderson is a graduate of Baldwin Wallace University and has been involved with the quidditch community since 2012. She initially served as Alex Benepe’s Executive Assistant and transitioned to the Events Department in 2015, where she has been on the hospitality team. In 2017, she became an Access and Engagement Coordinator in the Office of the Executive Director, focusing on expansion and accessibility across all USQ programs.

"I'm really energized about this opportunity to help explore how the quidditch community can grow! There is so much potential for positive change to help secure the future of our sport, so I look forward to working with everyone to see what is possible," said Anderson. 

The Membership Expansion Manager is a part-time role within USQ that reports to the Executive Director. USQ’s strategic plan for 2018 through 2021 is centered on sustainable expansion of the league. Specifically focusing on recruitment and retention, the Membership Expansion Manager will work to achieve the key goals outlined in our strategic plan and to support the membership department’s programs. Anderson will work closely with the Executive Director, Membership Director, and other staff and volunteers to ensure that USQ’s membership department is able to successfully and sustainably grow.

“As one of USQ’s longest-serving volunteers, Megan brings unparalleled energy and expertise to this new role in our league. I look forward to working with her in her new position,” said Woolsey.  

Anderson’s first day of work will be Wednesday, December 26, 2018. This is a short-term role through Summer 2019.
