Announcing a new international referee program for US Quidditch Cup 12.
This season, US Quidditch is excited to offer a new opportunity for certified referees from other countries. We recognize that referees from other countries are constantly improving and developing their skills, aided by the efforts of the IQA Referee Development Team. We also know that the best way to develop as a referee is to work with other experienced referees and to officiate high-intensity and competitive games that will test you in new ways.
In order to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and refereeing techniques, US Quidditch has established an international referee program for US Quidditch Cup 12, taking place April 13-14, 2019 in Round Rock, Texas.
Under this program, certified head referees from other countries will be eligible to officiate at US Quidditch Cup as lead assistant referees. Lead assistant referees are officials who have passed all three levels of written certification test available, and have referee membership. A position unique to USQ, they serve as an additional resource for the head referee in every game and are paid $10 per game. International certified head referees are also eligible to earn $5 as an assistant referee or snitch referee during bracket play at this tournament, same as the USQ certified head and lead assistant referees, a change that was announced in the first issue of the monthly Officials Newsletter.
The biggest obstacle for non-playing referees has consistently been the costs associated with travel. USQ is offering complimentary referee membership for fully certified referees from other countries in order to cut down on any additional spending. We are also offering free housing at USQ hotels during the event to a limited number of applicants, along with transportation to and from the hotel to the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex. Free lunch is also available on April 13 and 14 to international referees who officiate 6 or more games per day.
International referees are also welcome to work as head referees. However they must pass a field test in the U.S. prior to the event in order to do so.
The deadline to apply for this program is 11:59pm ET (GMT -04), on Sunday, March 17, 2019. Please click here to apply!
