Gameplay Information for 2018 Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship

The gameplay format and schedule for the 2018 Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship are announced below.

The 2018 USQ Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship will be a round robin tournament in the community division, and a pool play into bracket play tournament in the collegiate division.

The gameplay schedule can be found here, while information on the regional championship can be found here.

COMMUNITY DIVISION

The community teams will participate in a double round robin, playing each other team two times. There will be no bracket in the community division.

The five community teams competing at this event are (listed in alphabetical order):

  • District of Columbia Quidditch Club

  • Philadelphia Freedom Quidditch Club

  • Southern Storm

  • Terminus Quidditch Atlanta

  • The Warriors

Each community team will play each other community team once on Saturday and once on Sunday. The specific Sunday schedule will be released on Saturday evening, so the teams can be assigned slots based on the collegiate bracket, accommodating conflicts where possible for community players who coach a collegiate team.

The community team with the highest ranking at the end of the tournament will be the Regional Champion in their division and will qualify for US Quidditch Cup 12. Additionally, the community teams ranked 2 through 3 will also qualify for the national championship. To learn more about qualification, please see this article.

COLLEGIATE DIVISION

The collegiate teams will participate in pool play in four pools of five (5), before continuing on to a bracket structure to determine the collegiate regional champion as well as the ten (10) collegiate teams who qualify for US Quidditch Cup 12. To learn more about qualification, please see this article.

The pools for the collegiate division are as follows (listed in alphabetical order):

Pool D: Drexel University Quidditch Club, James Madison University Quidditch, Lock Haven University Quidditch, Ohio University Quidditch Club, Rutgers University Quidditch

On Sunday, the top four teams in each pool will make it into bracket play. Teams ranked first or second in their pool will be placed in the championship bracket. Teams ranked third or fourth in their pool will enter the qualification bracket to compete for one of the additional US Quidditch Cup 12 bids.

GENERAL GAMEPLAY INFORMATION

Rankings during the tournament will be based on the USQ tiebreaker policy. The primary comparison will be win percentage, followed by head-to-head, then quaffle points against, then quaffle points for, and then snitch catch percentage.

Please note that the USQ forfeit procedure will be in effect during this event. Teams who forfeit a match may be required to forfeit the remainder of their scheduled games and may be subject to disqualification from the remainder of the tournament. Teams who are disqualified from their regional championship are ineligible to compete at US Quidditch Cup 11 through either a bid earned at the regional championship or an at large bid. This includes bids that were already earned at the event prior to the disqualification.

  • Forfeits done in game are reviewed on a case-by-case basis for both forfeiting the rest of the tournament and disqualification.

  • Forfeits due to violations of tournament policy will always result in automatic disqualification.

  • Forfeits done before the game begins will alway cause the team to forfeit the rest of the tournament, and will be reviewed for disqualification.
