USQ announces an update to the jersey number policy that will take effect in the 2019-20 season.
Beginning in the 2019-20 season, player numbers will be restricted to integers between 0 and 99 inclusive. Three digit jersey numbers will no longer be allowed.
Please note that this change does not take effect next season. The jersey number policy is being updated for the 2019-2020 season.
While this policy change is specific to US Quidditch, the International Quidditch Association is also announcing a similar change to their jersey number policy today. The announcement of their new jersey number policy can be found on their website.
While the move to two digits is a way of shifting our standards towards those of other sports organizations, it is primarily being made to improve quidditch officiating. By limiting jersey numbers to two digits, the numbers will be shorter and easier to say, improving communication between officials and players on knockout and back to hoops calls.
USQ recognizes that jerseys, especially those with full sublimation, are an additional expense for players. This policy change is being announced with a grace period in order to ensure that teams have ample time to implement the change. We recommend that teams ordering new jerseys next season restrict player numbers to those between 0 and 99 inclusive. The one-season grace period will end on June 30, 2019. Additional information on the player number policy can be found here.
