Gameplay Update for Southwest Regional Championship

After conducting a site inspection on Friday morning, USQ staff has decided to use different fields for this weekend’s Southwest Regional Championship. We have secured turf fields on-site at the same complex, and the tournament will still be held this weekend.

Update Friday Evening

Gameplay Schedule Update

The gameplay format is not changing. The gameplay schedule has been adjusted to use two pitches for the majority of Saturday, adding a third pitch at Memorial Stadium when it becomes available at approximately 5pm CT.

The collegiate division will finish pool play as originally scheduled on Saturday. The bracket is staying the same, with adjusted times.

The community division will have two rounds of round robin to play on Sunday, instead of the originally scheduled one round. The playoff series will still happen as originally scheduled, with adjusted times.

As mentioned in the coaches meetings, there is a potential for thunderstorms on Saturday morning. We will be monitoring weather, and if a stoppage of play is necessary, we will communicate with everyone onsite. Play will stop for 30 minutes if lightning strikes within 8 miles of the facility, and the 30 minute clock would reset in the event of a subsequent lightning strike. Shelter locations will be available onsite under the stadium or in your cars. We have contingency schedules and plans prepared in the event of a weather delay on Saturday morning. Our primary priority would be resuming games once it is safe to do so, and we would communicate the schedule updates to all teams once games have resumed.

Officials Schedule

The officials schedule is being updated currently, and will be released as soon as possible. We will be posting in the Facebook event and texting captains once it is prepared. If your team doesn’t want to stay up to wait for it, please be prepared to have all your team’s officials prepared to be at the fields on time to officiate the 9am game slot in case they are scheduled at that time.

General event reminders

There will be a coaches meeting onsite at the facility at 8:00am for teams whose coach was not able to attend one of the Friday night meetings. There will also be an officials meeting at 8:00am. Players who did not check in on Friday may check in starting at 8:00am. The opening ceremonies will take place at 8:30am.

The event is being held at Hoskins Field, and Memorial Stadium (beginning on Saturday evening). They both share a parking lot with the original event facility, and should be able to be entered into your GPS to direct you there. The address is 4709 Barnett Rd, Wichita Falls, TX 76310. Below is a map to the fields.

Original Update

After conducting a site inspection on Friday morning, USQ staff has decided to use different fields for this weekend’s Southwest Regional Championship. We have secured turf fields on-site at the same complex, and the tournament will still be held this weekend. We have two turf fields available for the entirety of Saturday and Sunday. Beginning Saturday evening and continuing into Sunday, we will have access to an additional turf field at Memorial Stadium. Both sites are fully equipped with field lights.

As a result of having fewer fields than originally planned, the gameplay format and schedule may change. Additional information on the format and schedule will be available later today. We will also have a site map, and details on how to follow games online. This evening, staff will go over everything at the two scheduled captains meetings, held at 9:15pm at the Candlewood Suites and 10:30pm at the Hampton Inn.

If you would like to receive text message updates about any further schedule adjustments, please fill out this form.
