US Quidditch is pleased to announce the finalists for the 2017-18 season events.
We are still finalizing some information about the bids. This section will be a log for updates to this article. We will notate the date a change is made and what that change is.
May 10, 2017: Updated available dates and average low temperature for Monroeville, Pennsylvania. Updated field information for Placer Valley.
June 1, 2017: Updated available dates for Rochester. Added Olympia, Washington as a finalist for Northwest Regional Championship.
June 26, 2017: Updated available dates for Dayton, Ohio. Added Kalamazoo, Michigan as a finalist for Great Lakes Regional Championship.
The bid process for the 2017-18 season began in December 2016 and the bid submission deadline was April 17, 2017. Overall, we received a total of 25 bids for nine events in the upcoming season. Additional bids were submitted for events in future seasons, and those bids will be reviewed beginning next spring. The bid process will re-open in the fall for the 2018-19 season and beyond.
Over the next two months, USQ staff will conduct site visits with finalist cities. We will also conduct a thorough internal review of the locations with USQ volunteers. Final event dates and locations will be announced at the end of June.
US Quidditch evaluated submitted bid based on the location of the bid, the quality of facilities, the amount of financial support (both direct financial support and additional in-kind support), and the level of community support, including letters of nominations from local teams as applicable. Each of the bid packages of the event finalists listed above surpassed USQ bid requirements and expectations in at least one of these categories. Further explanation of the bid process can be found on the event bidding page.
Players and teams with comments or questions about any of the bids in their region are encouraged to contact Events Director Mary Kimball at events@usquidditch.org.
Please note that we are still confirming dates with all finalists and that dates are subject to change. As part of our review process with staff, we will explore the feasibility of hosting two USQ regional championships on the same weekend.
