USQ announces its referees of the month for February 2017: Ricky Nelson and Caleb Ragatz
Ricky Nelson and Caleb Ragatz have been selected as the Referees of the Month for February.
Ricky Nelson has been providing a reliable and skilled source of officiating for tournaments near and far since World Cup V on Randall's Island. Starting his career as a beater with Maryland Quidditch, he was among the first to become certified as a head referee and snitch and worked as a field test proctor for the past three years expanding ensuring quality among referees. This, year in addition to numerous team hosted events, Nelson travelled to five different regionals ranging across 2,500 miles as a non-playing referee and snitch runner.
Caleb Ragatz is a senior at Arizona State University in his third season playing quidditch. In addition to being the head coach for ASU, Ragatz has been a member of the rules committee for two years and became a referee field test proctor this season. When asked about his dedication, he cites his love for the rules. Ragatz is extremely grateful for this honor and is excited to bring a high level of both play and officiating to the rest of the season.
Both Nelson and Ragatz have have demonstrated consistently high quality officiating, as well as a willingness to frequently officiate throughout the season and a dedication to officiating through their work as referee field test proctors.
USQ congratulates Nelson and Ragatz, and thanks them on behalf of the league for all the work that they do as officials.
The USQ Referee of the Month program runs throughout the season, selecting six referees who demonstrate a strong commitment to high quality officiating across the country. The winners of the Referee of the Month Award will be eligible for the Referee of the Year award, and its corresponding US Quidditch Cup travel grant.
