USQ announces its referee of the month for January 2017: Josh Mansfield.
Josh Mansfield has been selected as the Referee of the Month for January.
Mansfield joined quidditch with the Tulane Quidditch team in 2013, and began head refereeing in 2014, building off of his background in soccer refereeing and softball umpiring. He attended World Cup 8 and US Quidditch Cup 9 as a non-playing referee, and will be returning to US Quidditch Cup 10 as a player for Gulf Coast Gumbeaux. This season, he has received rave reviews for his professionalism, willingness to help, and hours of travel for the sake of refereeing. As a non-playing referee, Mansfield attended A&M Classic, Hub City Cup, and the Threaux Me Something Mister Invitational. He also attended Diamond Cup and Southwest Regional Championship as a playing referee. In addition to reffing, Mansfield serves as a field test proctor for USQ, and has helped field test a number of Southwest referees this season.
USQ congratulates Mansfield, and thanks him on behalf of the league for all the work that he does as an official.
The USQ Referee of the Month program runs throughout the season, selecting six referees who demonstrate a strong commitment to high quality officiating. The winners of the Referee of the Month Award will be eligible for the Referee of the Year award and a US Quidditch Cup travel grant.
