Mizzou Quidditch defeated Kansas Quidditch 190*-110 to take home their first Midwest Regional Championship title in Nevada, Iowa.
Mizzou went undefeated on day one and was the second seed coming out of pool play. They beat defending regional champions Minnesota in the semi-finals, 210*-110, securing their spot in the championship match on Sunday evening. Mizzou defeated Kansas in an exciting final match that lasted 26 minutes and 6 seconds. The final score was 190*-110, with a snitch grab by Mizzou seeker Dominic Stelzer. Head referee Alec Powers oversaw the final match, with support from lead assistant referee Richard Crumrine. The snitch runner was Hisham Abad.
On Saturday, many young people were introduced to the sport of quidditch. USQ would like to thank the Illinois State University team for their assistance in teaching youth quidditch. The team led drills and scrimmages to eager groups of children.
13 teams participated in the regional championship. The final standings will be available later this week. Five teams representing five different states qualified for US Quidditch Cup 10. Their names are in bold below. They will be among the 60 teams nationally that have received a spot to compete for the tenth national championship in Kissimmee, Florida over April 8 and 9, 2017.
