February Referees of the Month

US Quidditch is pleased to announce the co-winners of the February Referee of the Month Award for the 2015-2016 season: Michael Clark-Polner and Ra Hopkins.

Michael Clark-Polner has been an active part of the quidditch world since fall 2011, when he was recruited to play for Franklin & Marshall College’s team. He has been a referee since summer 2012. After a brief stint on the Steel City Quidditch team, Clark-Polner has continued to be part of the community as a non-player referee for the last two seasons, and remains based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Clark-Polner has recently expanded his refereeing horizons by officiating for Pittsburgh Sports League, a community organization, in softball and football. He looks forward to continuing to work to improve himself as a referee and the sport as a whole.

Ra Hopkins has been playing quidditch for five years with three teams: UC Berkeley, Mission Blues Quidditch, and currently the Silicon Valley Skrewts. In Hopkins’s first year, they began working as a referee, serving as an assistant, goal and head referee. They were certified as a Tier 1 referee at the beginning of this season.

Hopkins would like to thank Dan Hanson, Kevin Oelze, and Sequoia Thomas for getting them into reffing and helping them improve, in addition to being role models on and off the pitch.

Stay tuned for our announcement of the 2015-16 US Quidditch Referee of the Year!
