USQ announces its fourth referee of the month for the 2015-2016 season: Ryan Davis.
Ryan Davis has been selected as USQ’s Referee of the Month of January for the 2015-2016 playing season. Davis has officiated at many different events so far this season, including Bat City last month. USQ staff, including the Officials Team, were impressed with his demeanor and control during high-intensity games at that tournament. He received solid reviews and feedback from fellow referees and tournament directors.
Davis has been playing the sport for almost four years with Texas Quidditch, the reigning national champion. A long time assistant referee, he began officiating this season as a head referee simply to complete his team’s referee requirements. He found he enjoyed making sure game are played as fair as possible.
“I love the sport of quidditch, but I enjoy the people of quidditch more. Meeting people from around the country/world and getting travel with some of the greatest people that have played this sport is amazing… My advice for ALL referees, including assistant and snitch referees, is just to be loud. I feel like the worst case scenario are for the players to be confused and unsure on whether or not they are beat, have scored, etc. because a ref won't speak up,” said Davis.
The USQ Referee of the Month program runs in the six months from September to February, with one winner to be chosen per month. The six winners of the Referee of the Month Award will be eligible for the Referee of the Year award and a USQ Quidditch Cup travel grant.
