Youth quidditch is a non-contact adaption of the sport that’s great for all ages. A food truck will be on site on Saturday and Sunday, selling sandwiches and standard festival fare food.

The event is being held at Capital Futbol Club Soccer Complex, 5201 State St, Salem, OR 97317. The complex offers 37 acres of natural grass. It has a strong history of hosting large youth events and tournaments, with a robust soccer program in-house.

“Salem is thrilled to host the US Quidditch Northwest Regional Championship in 2016!  It’s not every day that a city has the opportunity to host such a unique sport but we are excited to welcome quidditch to Oregon’s capital city” said Brian Chung, Sports and Events Sales Manager for Travel Salem.

It will be Salem’s first time hosting a regional quidditch championship. The first regional championship for the Northwest region was held March 2015 in Tukwila, Washington.

“The Northwest region is truly on the rise this season! With nine USQ official teams and a central regional location, the event is going to be extremely exciting competitively and hosted in a location completely new to quidditch,” Kym Couch, Northwest Coordinator for USQ, said.

The event is held in partnership with the Travel Salem. Salem lies in the center of the lush Willamette Valley, 47 miles south of Portland. Salem’s historic downtown is one of Oregon’s most charming. It is home to a wide array of attractions, ranging from historic pioneer sites and museums to events that appeal to a wide variety of interests from sports tournaments to art fairs, theater and music.

“I'm really excited to kick off our spring slate of regional championship with the Northwest Regional Championship. Our round-robin gameplay format should give each team a chance to show how much they've improved over the season and since last year, and on behalf of the league we're also really looking forward to partnering with Travel Salem to make quidditch in Salem a success.” Sarah Woolsey, Interim Executive Director and Events Director for USQ, said.
