Three community members have been appointed to the selection committee, along with four USQ regional coordinator volunteers and one USQ gameplay coordinator volunteer.
The selection committee will work together to select the coaches, officials, and players for the US National Team, which will compete at the International Quidditch Association's World Cup 2016, to be held July 23-24 in Frankfurt, Germany.
The three community members are Amanda Dallas, Ryan Sparks, and Steve DiCarlo. Dallas, former USQ editorial manager, is the Editor in Chief at the Eighth Man and the co-founder of Major League Quidditch. Sparks is a respected head referee and has served as a writer, focusing on gameplay analysis, for such sites as Hoop Zone, the Quidditch Post, and the Eighth Man. DiCarlo is known for creating the first quidditch analysis site, the Golden Snitchy, and currently plays for the LA Gambits.
The four USQ regional coordinator volunteers are Colin Richards, Erin Mallory, Josh Mansfield, and Kym Couch. These regional coordinators bring a balance of coaching, officiating, and playing experience to the selection committee, as well as knowledge of USQ’s member base.
Martin Pyne has also been appointed to the committee. As a USQ gameplay coordinator, Pyne helps oversee player transfers and score submissions from official matches, and contributes to the development of the league’s gameplay policies. Pyne is also a head referee and runs Quidditch Reference, a quidditch statistics and rankings website.
All applicants, including regional coordinators, were required to submit an essay that detailed their interest in the position, their qualifications, and their vision for the US National Team. Applicants were selected based on the quality of their essay and the breadth of experience they would bring to the committee. They were evaluated by USQ staff, including Sarah Woolsey (Interim Executive Director/Events Director), Katie Stack (Membership & Finance Director), and Mary Kimball (Events Manager). USQ thanks those who applied; all applicants were extremely qualified.
The next deadline to be a part of the US National Team is for coaches. Those interested in being a part of the coaching staff must submit their application and supplemental information by Monday, January 11 at 11:59pm EST.
