USQ World Cup 8 wins Best Collegiate Single-Sport Event award

The 2015 national championship event won Best Collegiate Single-Sport Event from SportsTravel Magazine.

US Quidditch’s World Cup 8 won SportsTravel’s Best Collegiate Single-Sport Event award. This award honors events nationwide that excel in organization and management for both competitors and spectators.

The event saw 80 teams and approximately 1,600 athletes compete for the title of quidditch national champion on April 11-12, 2015. Several thousand spectators attended the two day tournament in Rock Hill, SC. USQ World Cup 8 was hosted in partnership with York County Convention & Visitor's Bureau and Rock Hill Parks, Recreation & Tourism.

Our annual championship event is our marquee event for the season, and all of our staff and volunteers work tirelessly to make it a success. Additionally, I would like to thank our amazing city partners in Rock Hill for all they did to make the event great,” says Sarah Woolsey, USQ Events Director.

The SportsTravel Awards program bestows honors at the amateur, collegiate and professional levels in three categories each. Eligible events occurred between July 1, 2014, and June 30, 2015. The criteria for the award is as follows: The organization of event, series or circuit was superior; the event, series or circuit provided a superior experience for the competitors and/or the spectators; and the site(s) or venue(s) of the event, series or circuit enhanced the event, series or circuit.

The awards were presented on November 10 at TEAMS ’15 Conference & Expo in Las Vegas; Jessica Mendoza, Olympic Gold Medalist and ESPN host, emceed the ceremony. TEAMS: Travel, Events And Management in Sports is the world’s largest gathering of event organizers and travel planners from the sports industry.
