Spotlight on 2015 Northeast Regional Championship

On October 31 and November 1, 2015, the Northeast Regional Championships will return to Rochester, NY.

As a now-veteran event host for the sport of quidditch, the community of Rochester is eager to open its arms once again to the competitive quidditch teams in the northeast.

"Rochester and Monroe County as a community is fortunate enough to host the Northeast Quidditch Regionals going on three years. To watch these athletes representing some of the northeast's greatest colleges and universities with such great passion in the sport that they love has been really enjoyable. We are extremely excited to welcome all the athletes back to Rochester for another year. It is great to have a chance to showcase the Rochester community to over 20 collegiate teams from across the northeast," said Rich Mackey with the Monroe County Sports Commission.

Total Sports Experience has been the host for this event since the fall of 2013. It’s located 10 minutes from the heart of downtown Rochester. TSE has 14 outdoor soccer fields, with a concession stand in a large indoor building.

“We are so excited to be returning to Total Sports Experience in Rochester, NY. The past two events we have run with them have gone very smoothly, and their city has been very welcoming to our players, staff, and fans. The teams of the northeast are looking forward to another successful event in the great city of Rochester,” Kara Levis, USQ Northeast Regional Coordinator, said.

The event is held in partnership with the Monroe County Sports Commission. In addition to quidditch, the Sports Commission has hosted hockey, cycling, sailing, and disc golf events.

USQ is working with the Sports Commission to outreach to the local community. Rochester and the surrounding area have begun to anticipate watching high-level quidditch each fall.

"Quidditch is such a unique, fast-paced sport that our community has been able to embrace. It has provided not only an opportunity for our local teams to compete right in their backyard, but it has also allowed many sports enthusiasts a chance to embrace the fun and athleticism of this non-traditional sport," said Mackey.

Team and volunteer registration is now available here. If you wish to learn more information about US Quidditch, please sign up for our email list. For any questions about the event, contact events@usquidditch.org.
