Spotlight on 2015 Great Lakes Regional Championship

On November 7 and 8, the inaugural Great Lakes Regional Championship will be held in West Chester, OH.

This is the first regional championship for the new region, whose split from the Midwest region was announced last year.

“The Butler County Visitors Bureau is proud to welcome the US Quidditch Great Lakes Regional Tournament to West Chester, Ohio in November. This tournament will be the first time Butler County has hosted a Quidditch event. The tournament represents a great opportunity for Butler County to host a developing sport and grow sports travel during the fall season. We look forward to welcoming athletes and spectators to Ohio,” said Mark Hecquet, Executive Director of Butler County Visitors Bureau.

The tournament will be held at Voice of America MetroPark, a historical site that has its roots in World War II. In 1942, the United States government built a radio station for the purposes of international broadcasting. The site, built in partnership with Crosley Broadcasting Corporation, became known as Bethany Station. The park’s namesake, Voice of America, was the name of the program broadcast from the site. The telecasts were sent out in 53 different languages and were aimed at providing listeners with information about the United States’ efforts during World War II. The program continued during the Cold War, ceasing its broadcast in 1994.

In addition to over a dozen grass soccer fields, the park also has a 35-acre stocked lake and several miles of walking trails. The event is in partnership with Butler County Visitors Bureau.

“I'm excited to see a high level of competition from the Great Lakes region in their first year as the region. We're excited for this event and for the opportunity to host a regional championship in West Chester,” said Sarah Woolsey, USQ Events Director.

Team registration closes Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 11:59pm ET. If you wish to learn more information about US Quidditch, please sign up for our email list. For any questions about the event, contact events@usquidditch.org.
