USQ has released additional information regarding equipment waivers requesting permission to not wear a mouthguard while participating in an official USQ game.
As we mentioned in our original announcement in June, one of the major changes in Rulebook 9 was requiring mouthguards for all official games starting with the 2015-2016 season.
As many of our members know, USQ provides an equipment waiver to accommodate individuals with disabilities who may require other specific equipment in order to play quidditch. This waiver ensures that equipment policies are enforced in a safe and consistent manner across all official games. The equipment waiver allows the use of additional equipment in specific situations; the waiver should not be used as an attempt to avoid utilizing required safety equipment.
In other words, USQ will not approve equipment waivers requesting permission to not wear a mouthguard while participating in an official USQ game. The decision is based on concerns for player safety - mouthguards protect both the player and those whom they may come in contact with.
