Spotlight on 2015 Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship

On November 14 and 15 2015, the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship returns to Virginia, this time to Virginia Beach. Athletes will compete on the fields at The Hunt Club.

“Virginia Beach is excited to welcome the US Quidditch Regional Championship to our City. We are looking forward to showing the athletes, coaches and fans the best of what our City has to offer including the best competition venue, attractions, local restaurants and, of course, a beautiful oceanfront backdrop,” said Nancy Helman, Sports Marketing Director of Virginia Beach Sports Marketing.

Last year’s Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship, held in Henrico, VA, saw 20 teams and a total of 385 players compete for the title of regional champion.

“Exposing our community to this fast-paced sport will leave a legacy and hopefully grassroots participation for years to come,” continued Helman.

“This is my first year as the regional coordinator, as well as my first year not playing, and I am beyond excited to help organize, attend, and watch our regional. The Mid-Atlantic has grown so much over the past few years and I think this year we will see our best competition yet! We have an awesome venue in Virginia Beach as well as an amazing date (it's not Halloween!!!)” Erin Mallory, USQ Mid-Atlantic Regional Coordinator, said.

The event is held in partnership with Virginia Beach Sports Marketing. The Hunt Club is a multi-use facility that includes acres of grass fields. It has hosted hundreds of traditional events throughout the years, as well as sporting events. This year, they hosted the GORUCK 5k and National XBall League’s Virginia Open. The XBall League event was an international paintball competition that saw more than 100 teams, including 32 professional squads, descend on Virginia Beach.

“I'm super excited to be running Mid-Atlantic Regional this year. It has been a dream of mine since we all went to Roanoke for the first time and [saw] Logan Anbinder in his wizard hat. The Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship is a special event because as a region cheering for other teams is a given and our skills on the pitch only get better with each passing year. That deep sense of community and respect for one another is why every Regional Championship only gets better and better. This year will be no different! At the Hunt Club in Virginia Beach we are looking forward to an event space that can satisfy all of our needs! The ability to have more food options and vendor tents will be maximized in this space. Should you need more convincing to drive this distance take a look at average temperatures for the area in November. I can't wait to see all of your again for another wonderful Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship!” Jackie Ross, MARC Tournament Director, said.
