After much discussion and deliberation with Quidditch Canada, US Quidditch and Quidditch Canada have decided to restrict national quidditch membership registration to the team and individual’s country of residence.
For the 2015-2016 playing season, US Quidditch membership will only be open to teams and individuals residing within the United States of America. Teams and individuals residing in other countries should seek to register with their respective quidditch national governing body. If, throughout the season, it is discovered that a team or individual is not located within the USA, then that team or individual will be at that point barred from the league without refund or eligibility to participate in further events. Any official games played by this team throughout the season will be disqualified.
Acknowledging the short notice of this announcement, we are offering the only two US Quidditch member teams as of last year residing in Canada, University of British Columbia and British Columbia Quidditch Club, the option to register with USQ for the 2015-2016 season. No Canadian teams will be eligible for US Quidditch membership in the 2016-2017 playing season.
While US Quidditch’s primary focus is the development and growth of the sport of quidditch within the United States, we believe that having strong neighboring national governing bodies that are providing equally high quality programming and services to their member teams will only forward our mission and focus. If additional Canadian teams continue to register with USQ, Quidditch Canada will have great difficulty building up and strengthening a sustainable national league. USQ supports QC in their development by making the decision to restrict league membership registration.
