Richards is New Midwest Regional Coordinator, Scheer Moving to Great Lakes

US Quidditch is thrilled to announce that effective July 1, 2015 Colin Richards will become the new Midwest Regional Coordinator replacing Alex Scheer who will become the first Regional Coordinator of the new Great Lakes region.

The new Great Lakes region was announced on Dec. 2, 2014, as part of a split of the current Midwest region.

In addition to serving as a third-year player and beater captain for the Illinois State University Firebirds, Richards is taking over as team president next year. He was also the former Illinois Team Representative for US Quidditch, and has passed the head referee test, another role and perspective that will help Richards bring a wealth of experience to his new position.

While the position does not officially start until the new season begins, Richards will be doing behind-the-scenes work to get prepared. He will also be working closely with Scheer to jumpstart both regions toward a successful new season.

“I'm very honored to have been selected as Midwest Regional Coordinator,” Richards said. “My goal for this season is to ease the transition that will take place when USQ's largest region splits in half. I plan to encourage as many cities as possible to place bids for [the regional championship, and]  to ensure [that] we have the best event possible.”

Richards also wants to focus on expansion.

“In the long run I hope to encourage the growth of official teams, and high school teams within the region,” he said. “Team density outside of Illinois has been low in our region, but I hope to change that during my tenure as Regional Coordinator. Most importantly, I am looking forward to working and communicating with all the teams in the region, and helping [to] ensure everyone has a hassle free season.”
