Three prominent quidditch media outlets will be joining forces as the Quidditch Media Coalition to issue top-of-the-line, on-site coverage of World Cup 8 in Rock Hill, South Carolina this April.
Staff from The Eighth Man, the Quidditch Post, and US Quidditch will be working as a unified editorial team for one weekend in order to provide readers with up-to-the-minute coverage on usqworldcup.com.
US Quidditch Editorial Team Leader David Hoops and The Eighth Man Editor-in-Chief Amanda Dallas came up with the idea to merge resources for World Cup 8 back in November when the two outlets announced their initial partnership. After much consideration, the two selected Jack McGovern, founder of “The QuidKid,” to lead the endeavor on-site.
“As captains of our own teams, Hoops and I recognized we would not be able to do the World Cup editorial coverage justice on our own, so we will be predominantly focused on the planning side of things,” Dallas said. “McGovern was very much the front runner when we were considering who would lead our teams for the weekend. He did an excellent job helping the IQA log a record three million website hits at last year’s event.”
In addition to McGovern, Quidditch Post Editor-in-Chief Lindsay Garten and Senior Editor Andy Marmer will help lead the team, reprising their role at last year’s World Cup as Senior Editors. Marmer and Garten were integral to the success of the World Cup VII team, editing and posting articles during the event. Michael E. Mason, USQ photo editor and The Eighth Man contributing photo editor, will be returning once more to lead the photo team comprised of photographers from each outlet.
“I am thrilled to see US Quidditch, the Quidditch Post and The Eighth Man working together to provide World Cup coverage,” said Garten, who, alongside Marmer, is also a US Quidditch Assistant Editorial Team Leader. “I’ve had the opportunity to work with Jack, Andy, Amanda, and David before and am really excited to see the product we can put out together.”
The website’s written content will consist primarily of game recaps, detailed game trends, and brief features on standout players. It will also feature numerous links to The Eighth Man's Rock Hill Roll Call and the Quidditch Post's 80 in 80 series.
US Quidditch is excited to work with both groups and looks forward to making USQ World Cup 8 one of its best events yet. If you are interested in being a part of the World Cup 8 editorial team, fill out this Google Form. There will be a deadline of March 31 for all applicants.
“Joining an undertaking such as this is a great opportunity to impact the growth of quidditch and determine the storylines of World Cup 8,” said McGovern. "I plan to recruit the largest staff of quidditch journalists ever.”
