SW Community Service Throwdown Joins Member Rewards Program

Beginning today, January 21, the Southwest Region will host the Southwest Community Service Throwdown, a competition encouraging the region’s teams to reach out to their community.

At the end of the competition on May 1, the team with the most points will be awarded a trophy, as well as a set of hoops.  Teams that earn points in the Southwest Community Throwdown competition will also earn points for the USQ Member Rewards Program.  The USQ Member Rewards Program incentivizes team and player participation in a variety of service projects, initiatives, and events. Participation earns a team points, which will be tracked on a new leaderboard on the USQ website by the end of December.

Becky Schmader, USQ Texas State Teams Representative, developed the Community Service Throwdown with the goal of inspiring teams to reach out to their cities and universities.

"Too often I think the quidditch community ends up limiting itself to doing things within the quidditch realm,” she said. “[I want to] foster a community beyond that of quidditch.”

The Southwest Community Throwdown competition will award points to teams per individual hour of community service. Examples for acceptable community service projects include, but are not limited to: working at a local food bank, volunteering for charities, hosting kidditch events, or assisting with neighborhood clean-ups. A 300 word summary of the event must be included in order to also qualify for the USQ Member Rewards.

Southwest teams should submit this form to becky.schmader@usquidditch.org in order to receive points. Any questions about the Southwest Community Service Throwdown can be addressed to Becky, while questions about the USQ Member Rewards program can be sent to membership@usquidditch.org.
