USQ and The Eighth Man Announce Editorial Partnership

Starting immediately, the USQ Editorial Team and The Eighth Man will work together to provide the best coverage of quidditch to date.

USQ is pleased to announce a new editorial agreement with quidditch media site The Eighth Man.

Founded by Ethan Sturm and USQ Gameplay Policies Coordinator Kevin Oelze in October 2012, The Eighth Man currently features cutting-edge analysis and some of the most consistent visual media of our sport to date. US Quidditch is proud of the work both its own editorial department and The Eighth Man have done spreading word of quidditch into sports and pop culture. In doing so, both teams have added many aspects of professionalism to the sport’s coverage, and we at USQ hope this agreement will continue to boost our sport’s relevancy.

“We are very proud of the content we produce and are excited for the opportunity to widen our audience with the help of USQ,” said Sturm, The Eighth Man managerial editor.

The USQ editorial team is moving away from producing opinion-based and analytical pieces on the USQ website and instead will be directing the sport’s fans to The Eighth Man’s analysis. USQ’s staff will focus on league announcements, fact-based tournament results, and feature stories about the people and teams that make up the league. By working closer with The Eighth Man, USQ will be able to direct more fans and players to The Eighth Man site, while at the same time providing additional links and content on the USQ website.

“The IQA/USQ and The Eighth Man have not traditionally seen eye to eye,” said Eighth Man Editor-in-Chief Amanda Dallas. “In fact, the entities have often found themselves at odds. That is all about to change.”

USQ Editorial Team Leader David Hoops echoed Dallas’ excitement about the expansion.

“Being a part of the expansion of quidditch analysis here at USQ and the IQA were some of my more exciting moments in the quidditch community,” Hoops said. “I enjoyed working with Amanda as a Regional Correspondent and am looking forward to continue doing so now that she is a member of The Eighth Man’s staff. I think our two teams working together can create an online presence for quidditch that is bigger than both sites could achieve on their own.”

Beginning with the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship, USQ will provide links on its homepage to selected written, audio, and visual media produced by The Eighth Man. The Eighth Man is still an independently run source, and its content is not overseen by USQ or the IQA.
