USQ Update

Introducing the Thursday Rundown

The Thursday Rundown is your weekly recap of important updates from USQ and around the league.

Membership Numbers Update

We have over 3,350 individual members and 157 teams registered so far this season. We have also had over 90 ID card packets returned to us due to member address input errors—please remember to triple check your mailing address when you register!

GAMEPLAY POLICY UPDATES

Forfeit Policy Updated

The USQ Gameplay Policies Team has updated the forfeit policy to include: “Attempting to exploit USQ policies by intentionally forfeiting a game or games may result in forfeits of all future games in the same tournament. Offenders will be subject to the disciplinary policies.”

New Concussion Policy in the Works

We are developing a leaguewide concussion policy to ensure that players diagnosed with a concussion do not return to play until it is safe to do so. To learn more about progress on the policy so far, please see our article on the current draft.

Referee Program Updates

Public Referee Database

This new public referee database lists all USQ certified assistant and head referees, along with their contact information, so that tournament directors can easily find referees to officiate their events.

New Resources

Our Referee Resources page has been updated to include some clarifications on commonly misinterpreted rules.

New Disciplinary Policy in the Works

We are finalizing a referee disciplinary policy in order to improve performance and enforce professional behavior among USQ certified referees.

Review Your Refs!

For the past few weeks, teams have received an automatic email after every match asking that they evaluate their referees. Everyone (coaches, captains, spectators, peer referees, tournament directors) is encouraged to evaluate their referees; regular feedback will help our program continue to improve.

TEAMS DEPARTMENT UPDATES

Resources for New Teams Under Development

The Teams Department is creating a welcome packet for new teams looking to get started in USQ and quidditch in general. We want to include helpful information like an overview of policies, good financial practices, equipment options, and club management tips. We would love your input on items to include in this packet. Please help by filling out this form.

Meet Your Teams Rep

Teams Representatives across the nation are holding monthly meetings with the teams they represent. These meetings are designed to be a forum in which the Teams Representative can get an update about each team’s current issues, successes, etc, while also making sure that each team is knowledgeable of new and/or relevant USQ policies. Without a dialogue with our teams, we do not know what is working and what isn’t in the league, so please make sure you are in touch with your designated Teams Rep and attend these meetings so we can all work together to improve our sport. If you have any questions or are unsure of who your designated Teams Rep is, please email alexis.bristor@usquidditch.org.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Volunteer for Spring Regional championships or World Cup!

We’re still looking for people to help run spring regional championships and World Cup. Volunteering for a USQ event is a fun and rewarding experience, and we’d love for you to join us! Find more information about those positions here, or email us at events@usquidditch.org with any questions.
