USQ Update

Portland Augureys Receive Starter Kit Grant

USQ is pleased to announce that this season's recipient of the “Starter Kit” Equipment Grant are the Portland Augureys.

Correction: A previous version of this story stated the Augureys were the first-ever recipient of the Starter Kit grant. Last season both Thundercats Quidditch and the University of Montreal Quidditch Club received the grant. The USQ editorial team regrets this error.

USQ is pleased to announce that this season's recipient of the “Starter Kit” Equipment Grant are the Portland Augureys. The Equipment Grant is eligible to first-year USQ official teams and includes:

  • One full set of Peterson hoops (six hoops per set)

  • One Baden Matchpoint size 5 quaffle

  • Three Champion bludgers

  • One snitch short set (includes shorts, sock, and tennis ball)

  • Two full sets of headbands (seven per set: one green, one yellow, two black, three white)

  • Two sets of practice pinnies (12 per set, each set a different color)

  • One set of short practice cones (20 per set)

  • One athletic first aid kit

"In five years, I see the Augureys as [being] beloved by Portland, [Oregon],” said team captain Benji B’Shalom. “As we grow, we continuously find that this city is perfectly suited to support quidditch, and it’s just a matter of starting [a quidditch team] and getting it to the public. I expect us to be a contender in the Northwest region and a team with a reputation for being kind, fair, sportsmanlike, and supportive of the entire community."

The total worth of the grant’s equipment prize comes to about $500, and USQ will award this to one team per season. Interested in applying for next year’s Starter Kit? Information can be found here and further questions can be emailed to Membership Director Katie Stack.
