The Northwest Regional Championship is currently slated for February in the Greater Seattle Area (more information will be announced at a later date), but unless more teams register with USQ, the tournament might not happen.

USQ and Northwest teams have worked tirelessly to establish a foothold in a previously low-density area, and short-term results show that the decision is paying off. Surveys indicate that the number of teams interested in competing in the Northwest will increase exponentially. Although there are currently 17 teams in the region, unless more teams register as USQ official by Oct. 1, it may not be feasible to host a Regional Championship tournament for the 2014-15 season due to the financial and human resources investment required to put on the tournament.

USQ is committed to its teams and the quality of its product. If the Regional Championship does not happen, all teams will be eligible to receive a refund, or they can choose to compete at the West Regional Championship. Those teams would then count toward the West Region’s USQ World Cup bid total.

Regardless of the feasibility of hosting a Regional Championship tournament this year, the Northwest will continue to exist as an official USQ region, encouraging growth in this up-and-coming area. The region has already made great strides in this awareness and competitive experience, and it recently featured its first Fantasy Tournament in August.

USQ is currently producing an overall events development plan, which will stipulate size caps for Regional Championships, and address plans to create additional qualifying events once the Regional Championships become too large. Part of this plan includes a split in the Midwest Region for the 2015-16 season, resulting in two separate Regional Championship tournaments for the regions created from the split.
