"The tournament went extremely well - very few injuries, a surplus of food and water, a lot of competitive games. I couldn't have asked for much more to go our way, hopefully the success of this one carries into next years edition!” – Jamie Lafrance, Tournament Director

Why Broduce came out on top
Team Broduce was able to secure their wins by controlling all aspects of the game. They had deep chaser and keeper lines that were able to sustain their fast and physical quaffle play throughout the entire tournament. The team's quaffle play was led by the tournament MVP, Hugh Podmore of McGill, who put numerous points on the board and was instrumental on defense. Broduce also had a strong beater lineup; they kept bludger superiority for the majority of their matches and were skilled at controlling the other teams seeking game. Lastly, Team Broduce was rounded off with a solid seeking game. Their seekers were able to make the snatch in key games and were able to break through the Hipster Horcruxes' defensive seekers, allowing them to lock in their gold-medal win.

Key players of the tournament
At the end of the tournament, the General Managers gathered and chose a tournament MVP and an All-Star team highlighting players of the tournament. The players were selected based on performance and leadership on their teams. Here are their selections:
Hugh Podmore, McGill University, Team Broduce - Tournament MVPPodmore was a driving force for his team, he contributed both on offense and defense, helping secure his team's quaffle play dominance throughout the tournament.
Jenn Magel, Carleton University, Hipster Horcruxes - ChaserMagel was instrumental in the Hipster Horcruxes second place finish. Her play making and finishing around her opponents' hoops was a key factor in their strong offence.
Ian Little, Queens University, Half-Shell Heroes - ChaserLittle brought strength and speed to the Half-Shell Hero lineup. He helped provide them with a strong offense that could plow throw their opponents' defense.
Devin Sandon, University of Rochester, Team Broduce - ChaserSandon was a key member of the Broduce offense. His smart plays, quick passes, and hard drives put points on the board.
Colin Wallace, Carleton Univeristy, Hipster Horcruxes - BeaterWallace was an essential point of the Hipster Horcruxes strong beater line. His use of aggressive beating and accurate long-beats shut down their opponents' offense and kept them in the game at all times.
Erin McCrady, University of Ottawa, The Wall / Sarah Basciano, University of Toronto, Beesley's Boggarts - BeaterBasciano was a one-beater defense machine. She could clear out the entire opposing team from around her hoops and ensure they were unable to make a play. McCrady was a leader in her beating lineup. She led her team by example, controlling her end of the pitch and bludger superiority.
Alex Graham, McGill University, Hipster Horcruxes - SeekerGraham's seeking was the key to the Hipster Horcruxes' success. He caught numerous snitches in key games to ensure his team's second place finish.
Adam Palmer, York University, Beesley's Boggarts - KeeperPalmer was a force from the keeper zone. His hard drives and quick goals were matched only by his solid defense and such-down keeper play.
Samy Mousa, University of Kansas Warhawks, The Wall - UtilityMousa did it all. He was The Wall's GM, he played every position, he refereed, and he coached other referees. Without him, both The Wall, and the tournament as a whole, would not have been as successful as it was.

A big thanks to all the volunteers!
Canada Day Fantasy Tournament was a fantastic tournament. All those involved had a great time and the Quidditch was spectacular. However, the tournament would not have been a success without the many volunteers. A big thank you goes out to Jamie Lafrance, Tegan Bridge, Clare Hutchinson, Megan Stacey, Carina Hetherton, Karen Kumaki, Alexis Moody and Marilyn Tourangeau for organizing the tournament; to Samy Mousa and Chris Beesley for helping train and organize the referees; to Michelle Ferguson, Ben Holland, and Rithy Min for their excellent photographs of the tournament; and to the volunteers from the University of Ottawa who provided food and First Aid.
Lastly, thank you to all those who participated in the Canada Day Fantasy Tournament, it would not have been a success without all of you! Thank you for coming and making this the best possible birthday Canada could have; a day full of Quidditch.
