Each Sunday, the IQA will post a series of weekly announcements. Check back here every week for the latest opportunities and announcements from the International Quidditch Association.
New Season Begins July 1
On July 1, the calendar resets. Records are wiped clean and rosters are blank slates as the season begins anew. The beginning of the new season marks the beginning of our new
membership program, as well as the release of the highly anticipated seventh edition of the official rulebook. Check back in this space next week for more information about the 2013-2014 IQA season.
Texas Tech to Host West by Southwest Tournament
The second annual West by Southwest Tournament will officially be hosted by Texas Tech University this fall. This IQA-sanctioned tournament will feature matches from both the Southwest and Western regions, including many of the World Cup VI qualifiers and finalists.
The amenities offered at Texas Tech are some of the best in the Southwest Region. The matches will be played on soccer fields at Texas Tech which are comprised of natural, thick grass turf in close proximity to restrooms, available parking, and the best hospital for miles. They are well lit for night gameplay, and the light towers provide available outlets. The university provides free field rental, scoreboards, ability to paint the fields, and free public transportation throughout the campus and to local restaurants. Texas Tech expects to be able to house all of the players, refs, and snitches, and provide a cheap hotel plan if there is an unexpected amount of teams attending or for any spectators who want to see these outstanding matches in person. They hope to provide transportation to and from housing and the airport all weekend. A profit share dinner will be held Saturday night to benefit the teams who attend. In addition, the Texas Tech Quidditch team will be fundraising directly for this tournament throughout the semester.
The IQA will be providing referee certification and the matches will possibly be live streamed for those who can't attend. The Tournament Director is currently looking for members of both regions to volunteer on the planning committee! If you have any questions or are interested in helping out, email her at
kendall.newman@internationalquidditch.org.
