WCVI International Bids
The IQA is proud and excited to announce the five overseas and Mexican teams who will be heading to the U.S. for this year's World Cup. Currently, the following teams are anticipating attending, pending final confirmation of travel arrangements:
Paris Phénix Quidditch (Paris, France)
Paris Frog Quidditch (Paris, France)
Qwertyrians Tijuana (Tijuana, Mexico)
Tec Quidditch (Monterrey, Mexico)
Milano Meneghins (Milan, Italy)
These five international teams have been invited as per our International registration guidelines. Paris Phénix is attending as the winner of the European Regional Championship. After inviting non-European international teams to bid for a tournament spot, we had not yet filled the requisite field of four international teams, and so we ultimately offered the two remaining spots to teams who had also attended the European Regional. Our original policy, which stated that only international teams who did not attend a regional championship would be eligible for these spots, was intended to ensure that the widest variety possible of international teams was able to attend the World Cup. After taking steps to ensure this, we revisited the championship-attendant teams to maintain the international diversity in the tournament field at large.
Unfortunately, no team from Australia will be able to attend this year's Cup; as per our regional distribution guidelines, this spot was offered first to the Eastern Canadian region; since no additional team from that region was able to attend, the spot has been offered next to the U.S. Western Region.
Please join us in congratulating these teams, along with the rest of our tournament field, and look forward to the clash of nations in Kissimmee this April!
