Do you have experience organizing large quidditch tournaments? Are you interested in having a leading role in shaping the IQA's marquee event? Applications are due by April 12th. world cup vii tournament director slider Photo by Monica Wheeler The World Cup tournament director is responsible for ensuring that the World Cup is successful and well-organized. The World Cup tournament director manages the World Cup Organizing Team (WCOT) through weekly meetings and daily email communication. The tournament director makes final decisions on matters of business related to the tournament, but must report on a weekly basis to the Chief Operating Officer, who retains approval or rejection rights regarding the event. The Tournament Director is responsible for making sure that the event is running on time during both preparation and execution and that the team is hitting deadlines. The tournament director is also responsible for ensuring that the World Cup stays within the budget set for the event. This position reports to the IQA Chief Operating Officer, Alicia Radford. The position is unpaid, but travel costs and accommodation at the event during load-in/load-out are covered. Time Commitment -Average of 20 hours per week of work for the year leading up to the tournament (please note that final months or weeks tend to require more). -Regular attendance at weekly or bi-weekly Skype meetings, including, but not limited to: --->WCOT meetings --->IQA event department meetings --->Meetings with the IQA COO/CEO --->Event partner meetings -Site visit on location after the location has been selected. -On location for a minimum of two days prior to the event and one day after the event. Duties and Responsibilities The tournament director is primarily a manager, who works closely with the assistant director, personnel manager, and financial manager to plan and execute the event. The TD must provide inspiration, leadership, and direction to all WCOT staff, and ensure the development and management of a professional and efficient team. Marketing and game play for the World Cup will be managed by the IQA marketing and game play departments, respectively. The TD will be responsible for meeting with the marketing and game play directors and ensuring that deadlines are being met. Before World Cup planning begins, the TD will work with the IQA management team to develop a strategic plan to advance the World Cup's objectives and to promote revenue-generating activities and growth. The TD should also actively engage and energize partnering organizations and funders, and must review and manage all financial concerns with the assistant director and financial manager. The tournament director is a public face of the World Cup, and must consistently act in a professional, positive manner to both member teams and fans. The TD should promote the World Cup under the direction of the marketing department through written articles, personal appearances in traditional media outlets, and social media. The TD must stay abreast of current trends related to the World Cup, quidditch, and event management, as well as anticipate future trends likely to have an impact on the event. After the World Cup, the TD must meet with all WCOT staff for event follow-up and written reports, in addition to collecting departmental post-event reports from managers in order to present to the IQA management. The TD must also make a post-event report and final budget, to be published for member teams and fans. Ideal Candidate Characteristics -Attendance at past World Cups -Event planning experience, particularly tournament planning -Management experience -Strong time management and organizational skills -A mature and professional demeanor -An ability to stay calm and focused under stress or pressure -Strong communications skills, both written and verbal -A reasonable schedule over the event preparation period with few planned major commitments -A passion for the sport of quidditch and the future of the IQA Hiring Process The best candidates will be contacted before World Cup VI. Candidates will first have a phone interview, followed by in-person interviews for those candidates who will be attending the upcoming World Cup. The TD will be chosen after a final round of interviews after World Cup VI. Any applicant who currently holds a manager or director position within the IQA would need to give that position up, if selected as World Cup tournament director. Apply Now!
