25 IQA quidditch teams will do battle in a fort this weekend at the Northeast Regional Championship tournament in Newport, RI.

The event, hosted by the IQA Northeast region in conjunction with Fort Adams Trust, All About Group Travel, and Discover Newport, will feature two full days of gameplay, food provided by IHOP, IQA merchandise, youth quidditch, and a Harry Potter-themed airsoft range!
The Northeast Regional Championship Committee toured the event site a few weeks ago and has a few insider tips for teams.
“I could imagine that there would be more wind on fields 4 and 5 since the first 3 are in the fort. 4 and 5 also have a few more bumps on the field,” Kristina Moy, IQA Northeast Regional Director and NE Tournament Director, said.

The attending teams have been divided into five pools for Saturday's gameplay:
Pool 1 Pool 2 Pool 3 Pool 4 Pool 5
Emerson CAMPS SUNY Geneseo Harvard BU
Stony Brook Green Mountain Macaulay UMass NY Badassilisks
Vassar U of Rochester UVM Tufts RIT
Middlebury Syracuse URI Brandeis RPI
--------------- U of New Haven Hofstra NYU Boston Riot
Seeding on Sunday to fight for the championship trophy and the 11 World Cup slots will be based on Saturday's performances within the pools.
Teams have been preparing for this tournament for the past few months. The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's (Troy, NY) quidditch team is new to the IQA and has been practicing twice a week to prepare for its first qualifying tournament. The team expected to be ranked higher when entering the weekend, but is not too worried about the expected high level of competition.
“Ninety percent of our team is majoring in some sort of engineering. We regularly take exams where the class average is a 40 percent or even lower. It takes a lot to make us nervous,” Alex Hyman, RPI team captain, said.
Stony Brook University Quidditch (Stony Brook, NY), a veteran team in the northeast region, has been focusing less on quidditch gameplay this season and more on agility, endurance, and strength. The team has been weight training two days per week and running long distances during practice.
“Every chaser we have is well-rounded, so we can easily adjust [to any situation]. I am worried about Tufts, Harvard and Middlebury (simply because we know nothing about their teams),” the Stony Brook Quidditch captain said.
Stay tuned for more feedback and score updates on Saturday night after the first day of gameplay has been completed! You can follow @NEquidditch for immediate updates throughout the weekend, and for a more detailed event description for players and spectators please read the
