It's time to meet the chaser, beaters, keepers, and seekers from across the pond - the UK Quidditch Team! These folks will be the hosts, the competition, and ultimately Team USA's new best friends as the Summer Games unfold.         Name: Elliot Gostick Team: Chellaston Academy Positon: Chaser Elliot Gostick is in many ways the driving force behind Chellaston Academy's great success in the past year. His prior experience playing rugby means that he is a monster on the pitch, whilst his dedication to the sport means you'll struggle to find his level of passion anywhere else. However, there is a dark side to Elliot. There are rumours that the beard which grows upon his chin is in fact a parasite from outer space, come to this planet to learn the secrets of quidditch. There are even more rumours, if you dare believe them, that Elliot is in fact immortal and that he inspired many fictional and historical figures including: Macbeth, Vlad the Impaler, the Ghost of Christmas Future, and Nicholas Flamel, just to name a few. In short, it is evident that the name of Gostick has rung true throughout the centuries, and will ring ever louder at this year's summer games.     Name: Matthew Guenzel Team: Chellaston Academy Position: Beater Leader, founder, financier, and De Facto president for the Chellaston Academy Quidditch club, Matthew Guenzel is the dynamo behind bringing the sorcerer's sport to rural Derbyshire. A genius logistician, Guenzel aids his team on a variety of fronts, and now hopes to bring his trademark fiery enthusiasm and borderline obsession to the role of beater for the United Kingdom. Nobody is really sure about Guenzel's country of origin; whispered tales in lonely inns tell of a hybrid between a Charizard and a minor deity. Other, more reliable sources suspect that both of his parents are in fact members of the Illuminati. Perhaps we will never know. After masterminding and managing a club for the best part of year, Guenzel is on track to lead his team to victory on international grounds, bringing his considerable agility, cunning, and charisma to bear on any opposition.     Name: Owain Morris Team: Leicester Lovegoods Position: Chaser Having only started playing Quidditch in 2012, Morris has wasted no time cementing his position as a chaser for the Leicester Lovegoods. He played in the first ever IQA match in Britain against Avada Keeledavra and his fiery temperament soon became apparent. Within minutes the opposition fans were against him as he ferociously tore through their players and took no mercy with his brutal tackling. A keen rugby, soccer and tennis fan, Morris has a rich sporting history and is able to apply these tactics on the quidditch field.     Name: Becky Thomson Team: University of Leicester Position: Chaser Having arrived back at university after the Christmas vacation to see the founding of the University of Leicester Quidditch Club, Becky, a self-proclaimed Harry Potter nerd, jumped at the chance to live a childhood dream without actually flying. Originally thinking that she'd have the aggression to be a fine beater, it was only until Becky tried out for chaser, utilising her previous skills playing football and rugby, that she found her true quidditch calling. Perhaps lacking the experience of other players, Becky certainly makes up for it with her sheer determination and passion for the game and her country.     Name: Jack Hill Team: Leicester Lovegoods Position: Beater Playing beater for the team he founded in January 2012, Jack Hill stands at 6'5” tall with a typical build for rugby, and is a definite force to be reckoned with on the quidditch pitch. As the founder-president of the University of Leicester Quidditch Club, he has overseen their involvement in the first and second inter-team UK Quidditch matches and directed the Club's growth from a Facebook message to 150 members. A key element to the Leicester Lovegoods's efficient pitch play, Hill shows no mercy when beating or contesting a bludger and his versatility between offense and defense shines through for the entirety of the game.     Name: Emily Starbuck Team: Holyrood Hippogriffs Position: Beater Founder & captain of the Edinburgh University Holyrood Hippogriffs, Emily is on a mission to help expand and develop quidditch in Scotland, the birthplace of the Harry Potter universe. Her love of quidditch is surpassed only by her love of baking. Occasionally, the two combine with impressive results as her 'IQA Celebration Cake' recently came second place in the IQA's Culinary Classic, earning her the title of 'Quidditch Culinary Master'. Emily has dabbled in various sports over the years, from tennis, racquetball & archery to the more extreme dragon-wrangling & haggis-hunting. She believes the skills developed in these more traditional sports will only enhance her beating abilities in what will be her very first quidditch match.     Name: Zoe Ludford-Brooks Team: Avada Keeledavra Position: Chaser Hailing from an island where flying is second nature due to the high population of fairies, Zoe Ludford-Brooks jumped at the opportunity of being able to play quidditch upon arrival at Keele University. Having taken part in the first IQA rules match in the UK, she is no stranger to competition on the pitch. A confident pinpoint shooter eager to tackle those bigger than her even though she stands at over 6ft tall, Zoe knows her way round the field and has no problem showing it. Always one to be showing off the bruises she has picked up on the pitch, it takes a lot to make her hang up her broom. Nevertheless, she is not afraid to indulge her weaknesses of funky nail designs, Pokémon, and anything related to the small island she calls home.     Name:Natalie John Team: Leicester Lovegoods Position: Keeper As a first-choice keeper/chaser for the Leicester Lovegoods, Natalie John stands at 5'10 tall with 5 years' experience in Women's Rugby. With her merciless tackles and lightning-speed reactions, her game play as a keeper highlights her adaptability to both offensive and defensive play. Originating from the rugby capital of the UK, Natalie spends her spare time training in the rolling valleys of Wales with nothing more than a few sheep playing as her opposing beaters. Driving the official Leicester Lovegoods' mode of transport, the Pigfarts Express, Natalie's road rage most definitely shines through on the quidditch Pitch.     Name: Angus Barry Team: Oxford University Position: Chaser Captain of the Oxford University Quidditch team, Angus Barry has much experience in the dangerous world of quidditch. No stranger to physicality, Angus is an advocate of the ‘go hard or go home' mentality, bringing an air of tough play and determination to the team. An avid rower, in keeping with Oxford's traditions, Angus is used to long stretches of exhausting exertion, and was even reported to have towed the HMS Theseus back to Britain after running out of fuel in the arctic while wearing only a lycra onesie.     Name: Ashleigh Parry Team: Oxford University Position: Chaser An ally to Angus Barry, Ashleigh Parry also absorbed the Oxford mentality of hard grafting through a game to achieve the desired result. After her experiences of playing at Oxford University, she was eager to prove herself against the world's best at the upcoming Summer Games. Although one might be mistaken by the Oxford menace at first look, Ashleigh is not a player to be taken lightly, and to do otherwise could spell disaster for her opponent.     Name: Ben Morton Team: Avada Keeledavra Positon: Chaser With his dead set mentality to score, there have been few enough games that this player has been unable to claim points for his team. As assistant coach to Avada Keeledavra, there is little rivalry to Morton's passion and border line obsession for muggle quidditch. With his lightning fast speed and seemingly impervious resistance to tackles, anyone who stands in his way soon understands why his jersey name is the Italian word for death. Mounted upon his trusty broom, Saphira, this guy is firing on all cylinders and mistaking his height for weakness could be your final folly.     Name: Matthew ‘Swiish' Corbin Team: Leicester Lovegoods Position: Beater Matthew 'Swiish' Corbin is a former under 18's national league basketball player who has transferred his athletic abilities into playing quidditch. Currently training with the Leicester Lovegoods squad, he takes his role in Slytherin house seriously with demonic beating abilities and a no mercy policy. No blood - no foul.     Name: Steven ‘Sharkly' Willey Team: Free Agent Position: Beater Steven graduated from his Animation course at UCA Maidstone last year where, if he had found out about Muggle Quidditch sooner, he would have attempted to set up a team. Steven is a huge Harry Potter fan and also enjoys drawing, professional wrestling, heavy metal, Pokemon, bacon, and getting covered in tattoos. Although he has never participated in a game of quidditch, he is up to the challenge – even if it is one on an international level.     Name: Robbie ‘Dugald' Thomas Young Team: Avada Keeledavra Position: Seeker Often mistaken for Chuck Norris, Dugald successfully caught the snitch three times in the very first UK game between Keele and Leicester (a best-of-three match with an overtime). His experience in this role and his love for the chase give him an advantage over others in his field. Always eager to snatch the snitch, Dugald is keen to make an impact on the game scene in the UK and will be a player to watch at the Summer Games. Rumour has it that Robbie Dugald Young is derived from an ancient Gaelic language, and means ‘Majestic Swan of the Air'.     Name: Harry Wells Team: Leicester Lovegoods Position: Keeper A former tennis player and small forward on the basketball court, Harry is no stranger to competitive sports. His most distinctive feature, however, is his ability to motivate, entertain, annoy, and humiliate teammates and opponents in equal measure. He enjoys One Tree Hill, excessive drinking, shouting iconic lines from films at strangers, and animals that look like people. Having played for the Leicester Lovegoods since their inception, he has pitch experience unrivalled on the UK scene. He can also eat a hundred Chicken McNuggets in an hour.     Name: Johnney ‘Bludger' Rhodes Team: Holyrood Hippogriffs Position: Chaser Johnney “Bludger” Rhodes has been playing qudditch for nearly a year and has been in love with the sport ever since he first stepped onto the pitch last autumn. Always playing chaser to get his beloved “panda egg,” as the token Scot has dubbed the quaffle, he has earned a fierce reputation, and a nickname for tackles and charging like an erumpent – especially if there are Ravenclaw in his way. He plays for the Holyrood Hippogriffs and co-presents a quidditch segment on the Ministry of Magical Sound radio show. A proud Gryffindor, Johnney hopes one day the hippogriffs will play in the world cup even if it is just a chance to get bruises in another time zone.     Name: Abbi Harris Team: Leicester Lovegoods Position: Chaser As her unique shooting style will make her obvious to you on the pitch, the slick shooter from Leicester should not be underestimated. With an agile way about her and a sting in the shot, Harris will likely be doing big things on the pitch.     Name: Milo Barnett Team: Free Agent Position: Chaser Milo, at just 17 years old, will probably be the youngest player at the Summer Games. Milo is currently in the process of setting up a team at his school (RGS Newcastle, a school older than all four countries at the expo) that should be fully set up by September. He is a young and determined player who hopes to be bringing his experience from Rugby and is looking forward to having his go on a broom. He wants this experience to let him get through the opposition's defence, akin to Gryffindor's sword though a Basilisk . Outside of quidditch he enjoys politics, history, and a good party. He wishes everybody at the games good luck and says “Brooms Up!”     Name: Nicole Stone Team: Free Agent Position: Seeker/Snitch Thought to be a creature of legend, the Stone is a small beast of 5'2” with yellow plumage. Its lightning reflexes and quick speed help it to evade its seeker predators who wish to steal its treasured tail plume. It uses its strong legs honed through hours of kickboxing to propel it through the air and its arms provide a strong defence to stop charging seekers. The Stone uses wit and cunning to confuse unwary seekers and evade their attempts of capture, often leading to humiliation for the clumsy hunters. Fiercely competitive, the Stone never backs down from a challenge and its feisty and determined nature means it will continue to fight until the bitter end.     Name: Faye Simmons Team: Free Agent Position: Snitch The Faye Simmons is a small golden snitch with fully rotational hips, best known for clever antics eventually being replaced by a lively escape. The Simmons is slender, covered in golden fabrics, and has a long thin tail. Its eyes are a bright blue with the rotational hips allowing the Simmons to move in any direction with remarkable agility and speed. The Faye Simmons's swiftness and dexterity are so highly prized that it was at one time in danger of being hunted to extinction by seekers. The Simmons is a very delicate being, as a human's grip is enough to pluck the tail away.     Name: Jamie ‘Hinn' Hill Team: Leicester Lovegoods Position: Referee Jamie Hill is one of the only players to have refereed an inter-university match in the UK. At 6'3” and with rugby and football credentials, starting out as a chaser for Leicester Lovegoods seemed only natural. However, the role as a match official soon shone through with a “firm but fair attitude.” Backchat at your own peril! Not afraid to dish out punishment to remain in control of the game, Jamie is a tough referee who you do not want to cross.     Name: Rob Barringer Team: Avada Keeledavra Position: UK Team Coordinator ‘The Chief' founded QuidditchUK, a network that connects UK teams in an attempt to get Quidditch more organised and give teams a media to communicate in. Rob plays as the Keeper for Keele University, and is always attempting to root out more UK teams, aiding in the set-up of the Summer Games, or giving advice for new members. Rob holds the records for being the fastest cheese rolling champion ever and the most amount of marbles one can hold under the armpit. Always the first to order a family bucket at KFC, Rob knows how to party.
