Volunteer FAQ

In what areas do you need volunteers?

We have volunteers who work on just about everything! Here are a few of the main areas:

On-Site Event Volunteers

Each year, over 500 people volunteer on site at US Quidditch regional championships and the World Cup, as scorekeepers, guest services coordinators, merchandise sales helpers, field managers, assistants to executive staff, and “kidditch” (quidditch for kids) organizers.

Program Volunteers

The main programs US Quidditch provides are events—hosting nine major tournaments and supervising regular season competition; membership services for players, coaches, referees, and fans; training and certification for referees, snitches, and tournament directors; and expanding the sport into younger age groups through outreach programs at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.

Volunteers help us in each of these areas, from working on event logistics or hospitality, administering our member rewards program, providing customer service to members, creating referee resources, planning outreach events, and more.

Communications and Marketing Volunteers

We’re always looking for volunteers with professional skills like graphic design and web development to help create event signage, newsletters, programs, and more. We also have a team of volunteers who help record video footage at tournaments, write stories for our website, and help with social media and PR.

Professional Volunteers

Are you a fundraiser, lawyer, accountant, or other professional interested in volunteering your time? Please get in touch with us!

What is the commitment like for volunteers?

Extremely flexible! At the most basic level, we can put you on our on-call volunteer list. You’ll be emailed whenever we have short projects that need volunteer help, and you can choose to help whenever you’re available and interested in the work. We also have coordinators who volunteer around five hours a week, and others who only volunteer on-site during our events. It’s important to us that volunteering with USQ fits into your life and other commitments. So if you’d like to get involved, drop us a line! We’ll find something that works for both of us.

Is volunteering on-site, or remote?

Both! Volunteers at our events will volunteer at the event location. Otherwise, US Quidditch is a fully remote company with staff across the United States, so our volunteers work remotely as well, utilizing email, Skype, and other digital tools to communicate.

Do you offer internships, or could I get school credit or community service hours for volunteering?

We don’t have an ongoing internship program, but if you see a volunteer opportunity that could fit into your coursework, we’d love to talk to you about it. All internships must be for college credit.

We have also had many volunteers use their USQ experience for community service hours.

My company/nonprofit/group is interested in volunteering at your event together. Can you accommodate us?

Most likely! Again, drop us a line.
