Official Member Code of Conduct

By participating in the sport of quidditch, players, officials, tournament/team staff, and spectators are representatives of the sport. As such, all participants assume responsibility for representing the sport in a positive manner. While participants are responsible for following the rules of the game on the field, off-field conduct can also create lasting impressions of the sport. Negative representation would damage the reputation of the sport of quidditch, and so all participants should adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Coaches, captains, officials, and all participants remain aware of the example they are constantly setting for players and spectators alike.

  • Sportsmanship and fair play should guide the actions of all participants on and off the playing field, in and out of gameplay.This includes (but is not limited to) treating all participants with respect.

  • Avoid discriminatory language or actions towards any other person, including but not limited to remarks concerning their race, ethnicity, language, religion, gender, gender identity, orientation, or origin.

  • Unlawful consumption of alcoholic beverages and/or the use of illegal drugs in conjunction with participation in an official event or while on the premises of an official event is strictly prohibited. Any intoxicated participant will be ejected from the event, for the duration of the event.
  • All officials have a responsibility to wield their authority under the principles of fairness and courtesy. Players and spectators should in turn refrain from impeding any official’s ability to execute their job in a courteous and fair manner.

  • Ignorance of the rules of the game is not an acceptable reason to break them.  The rules, as set out in the most recent edition of the official rulebook, must be respected and followed by all participants.  Manipulating the rules in an attempt to create an unfair advantage against an opponent (ie, cheating) is unacceptable.

  • Deliberately teaching and/or promoting unsportsmanlike behavior is unacceptable. This applies to both on the pitch and online behavior.

  • Participation requirements, including but not limited to USQ member requirements (sole possession of a single, non-transferrable membership in the participant’s own name) and event requirements (specific fees/waivers), must be fulfilled.

  • Deviance from these guidelines, as well as any action damaging to the reputation of the sport of quidditch, is subject to disciplinary review.

Unlawful Harassment

In accordance with applicable law, US Quidditch prohibits sexual harassment and harassment because of actual or perceived sexual orientation, race, color, creed, religion, religious dress and grooming, sex, age, national origin or ancestry, physical or mental disability, military and veteran status, marital status, registered domestic partnership status, medical condition, genetic tests and information, gender expression, gender identity, pregnancy or related condition, breastfeeding or a related condition, physical disability or mental disability, or any other basis protected by federal, state, or local law. All such harassment is unlawful and will not be tolerated.  Making unwelcome sexual verbal or physical advances that are sexual in nature, and engaging in any sexual contact or behavior without explicit consent, to or with any person at any time violates applicable law and the US Quidditch Unlawful Harassment Policy.  Violators may be subject to suspension or expulsion from matches, entire seasons, or the league as a whole, and may also be reported to state law enforcement agencies.
