USQ is looking to bring on a new Head Coach and National Team Coordinator for Team USA. Applications are being accepted through June 30, 2017.
These two positions will work during the 2017-18 season to prepare Team USA for the 2018 International Quidditch Association’s World Cup. The date and location of that tournament have not been announced yet.
The Head Coach is responsible for the on-field performance of Team USA. They work with the National Team Coordinator to ensure the team exemplifies the best of quidditch in the United States. The role description and information on how to apply is available here.
The National Team Coordinator is the face of the team. They are responsible for the logistical organization of Team USA and will also work on fundraising. The role description and information on how to apply is available here.
In the past, players, staff, and officials for Team USA have been selected for each international championship. For the 2016 team, a selection committee made up of USQ volunteers and community members chose who made up the team, with the Head Coach and Assistant Coach joining the committee for selecting the player roster. There were no in-person tryouts. Applicants submitted written materials and video. Going forward, we would like to explore a different form of team selection as well as a new team structure, which the new Head Coach and National Team Coordinator will develop together with the USQ Membership Director. In particular, we are interested in models that USA Basketball and USA Hockey use for their national teams. Basketball and hockey use in-person tryouts, including training camps, to determine rosters for various international competitions. You can read more about the selection process for these two sports at the links below:

Applications for Head Coach and National Team Coordinator are open through June 30, 2017. We will announce who is filling those positions in August 2017. More information about the U.S. National Team will be released after the proposal from the new staff members has gone through the review process, similar to other USQ programs and policies.
